Greece 2022 - Day 1: Arrival in Athens

We made it!  It only took 3 years, a pandemic and multiple cancellations and rebooking, but we finally made it to Greece!

After a miserable and seemingly never ending red eye flight on Air Canada from Montreal, we dropped down out of the blue Mediterranean skies and landed on a beautiful, sunny, 28 degree day in Athens.  Well worth the wait!  After collecting our luggage, we decided to try navigating Greek train system and caught the Metro to downtown.  Smooth sailing!  We arrived at Monastiraki Station, and from there, we clunked our luggage the few blocks over cobbled streets to Athenian Foss, an an extremely cute boutique hotel located on a busy pedestrian only street.  Our 3rd floor room opened out onto the street with a balcony that was perfect for people watching.

After a shower and a quick change of clothes, we set out to explore the Acropolis.

And, despite being surrounded by thousands of years of history, we were intent of snapping pics of the stray kitties living at the citadel.

After descending
from the Acropolis, we wandered the narrow streets trying to decide where to eat our first Greek meal.  We opted for a quiet, street side table at an otherwise bustling little restaurant.  We were not disappointed with our selection of meze (Greek appetizers) washed down with some tasty, refreshing Ouzo.

And of course, where possible, every great day should end with ice cream...
